A quick look through my draft picks for another post ( Historical best picks...) had me saying "what was I thinking?" more than once. Here are my biggest mistakes. 5th Round - Kevin Czuczman (67th pick 2015) 4th Round - Max Veronneau (48th pick 2019) 3rd Round - Kerby Rychel (41st pick 2016) 2nd Round - Vladimir Zharkov (24th pick 2011) 1st Round - Will Butcher (11th pick 2018) What are yours?

Okay. Conscious again. Here are my nominations for worst pick in a round.
5th round - Steve Pinizotto (2013 #59) Come on - it's the fifth round. You expect these guys to play for you? Liked saying his name, he hung around for a cup of cappuccino and was never seen again.
4th round - Carter Ashton (2012 #45) Not a clue - had to look him up. Looks like Kevin from Home Alone grown up. Was playing in Sweden last year still.
3rd round - Nick Palmieri (2011 #28) What's in a name? Let me tell you. Kyle went seven picks later and has three times as many career goals as Nick had career games. Rookie jitters?
2nd round - Keith Aulie (2011 #14) Okay, I'll blame this on one it being my first year back in the league after years away from the game and being sold on big guys who could hit. Skating? Pshaw- over rated. Whooops!
1st round - Max Domi (2016 #8) Had traded down twice to get here and then the player I wanted went the pick before me (Barry!!! Still kick myself that I didn't push to see what it would have cost me to get Ehlers at that point). Disappointed that I didn't get the player I wanted at that point and I think it colored my perception of the player from then on. Domi pulled a Pierre Larouche with his good card/bad card routine for years and is the only first round selection I've ever traded. Ryan Strome was in consideration here but he's had too much utility to push Max off his perch.

5th round: has been pretty poor for me, I am going to Say Mattias Janmark in 2021, because I also selected him in the second round of 2016. Maybe the only guy drafted twice by the same team?
4th round: Going to say Mark Arcobello here, not that there was much in the way of recognizable names selected after him, other than Mike Hoffman selected some 19 picks later I don't remember any of the names.
3rd round: Cory Emmerton, played 139 NHL games, 71 of which were in the year I drafted him, 2012. He was out of the league two seasons later...
2nd round: Jordan Caron was my first ever second round selection in 2011... never played more than 48 games in an NHL season and only scored 12 career goals.
1st round: I could go with Matt Murray here, grabbed him when he looked like a stud and he just could not maintain it... but, sadly, I can do worse: Mikhail Grigoenko, never lived up to his potential and I took him at number 9 in 2013.

interesting exercise:
Round 5 - Julian Melchiori - dont think he ever made it off the inactive list - 65th overall 2016 Round 4 - Michael Mersch - definitely did not make it off the inactive list - 55th overall 2016 Round 3 - Nikita Scherbak - looked like he was going to make it in Montreal and then just dissappeared - 32nd overall 2019 Round 2 - Taro Hirose - Looked like he was a absolute sure fire pick to make and help lead Detroit during rebuild but just never made an impression - 18 overall 2019 Round 1 - I have only had 4 of them so by default just because he didn't have a good last year - Alex Newhook - 4th overall 2022

This is tough for me. I've been at it for 18 seasons in the NNHL. 9 of the 18 I haven't had a 1st round pick. 10 of the 18 no 2nd. and 4 of the 18 (soon to be 5 of 19) I've had no picks at all. I go as far back as actually having 6th round picks. After looking at the players chosen for these lists, I noted that I am over 60% in each round for good vs bust selections. My worst round oddly, is the 2nd.
6th Round: Jason Bacashihua and Roman Crvenka lead my list of 6th round embarrassments.
5th Round: Boo Nieves and Cristoffer Ehn are my most disappointing 5th round picks. Both had the talent, but lacked that extra something.
4th Round: Infamous Nikolay Goldobin, along with Gabriel Carlsson lead my 4th round flops that could have been serviceable players.
3rd Round: Valentin Zykov and big Mike Lundin (Full 81 games in TB in '07-'08 led me to think he was the real deal) were big let downs for me in the 3rd round.
2nd Round: Viktor Tikhonov and Erik Christensen convinced Shamrockville management that they were the next "big thing". yeah Big, expensive plane tickets back to Nowheresville. Cody Franson just missed the top tier cut here.
1st Round: Vitali Kravtsov, and Vaclav Nederost. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Honorable mention to the 4/3 I B +1 Ryan Whitney, this is why you don't draft for cards kids.

Klinkhammer at 63 was a pretty good pick IMO. He had a couple years with decent cards, cant ask for much more from a 6th rounder.
