Across the pond in Chelsea, the Mammoths and the Daggers faced off again, each trying to gain an advantage in the series.
Revelstoke 4 @ Chelsea 5 (OT)
Another back and forth game, where the Daggers jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on the strength of their shot accuracy once again. Chelsea out shot Revelstoke 9-7 but out chanced them 5-1. However, the Mammoths would not go away, and as per usual, used the second period to push their way back to a 2-2 tie on the strength of a marker by Lucas Raymond, then a powerplay goal by Brandon Tanev. The tie was however short lived, as Jonathan Marchessault scored a couple minutes later to restore a 1 goal lead. Cam Atkinson missed a penalty shot, which would be foreshadowing for later, and a lost opportunity for Revelstoke.
Jake Evans potted an early tying goal in the 3rd, followed by a series of quality chances by the Mammoths, leading up to a go-ahead goal by Mike Matheson. Lehner barely held the fort, but did enough to allow Chelsea to come back, stopping 3 of 5 quality chances in a 4 minute span. Kucherov was also blocked by the stalwart defence of Chelsea, with a shot labelled for the top corner. Despite trying to play defensively, Marchessault played the hero, first by tying up the game with only 3 minutes left, then scoring the OT winner less than a minute into the extra frame.
Shots were extremely close in this game as well.
Chelsea: 9 high danger chances on 33 shots
Revelstoke 9 high danger chances on 37 shots
Revelstoke 6 @ Chelsea 3
An emotional comeback the previous game led to a letdown for the Daggers. Not 30 seconds in, Kucherov pounces on the puck and swats it into the back of the net for a very early lead, and the first one the Mammoths have in the first period all series to date. This is followed up at the 6 minute mark by Tyler Seguin. A powerplay goal by Ehlers halves that lead, but the second period is all Mammoths once again, starting with yet another powerplay marker by Brandon Tanev, who makes fun of his brother playing on the other team, then Gaudreau and Atkinson adding to a commanding 4 goal spread. Ehlers tries to fight back, with an early 3rd period goal, but an egregious turnover by Crosby to noted sniper Cody Ceci ends up behind Lehner and in the net. A late powerplay gives Ehlers a hat trick but with him being the only goalscorer for the Daggers, that did not bode well. Of note in this game, Sorokin was hit on the head by flying beer cans 6 minutes into the 3rd period, and replaced by Matt Murray, who let in the only high danger shot he faced. Colton Parayko also tripped over his own blueline twice, and ended up playing as a -4. (Totally had nothing at all to do with the 4 bars he was facing at the time). Both teams also were called for a bench minor in the first period, oddly enough.
Chelsea: 6 in range on 35 shots
Revelstoke: 8 in range on 42 shots
The series now shifts back to Revelstoke, with the Mammoths having regained home ice advantage.
