I just wanted to clarify a couple of things.
I know we all want to understand how the ratings are generated so we can predict how our players are going to change, or who to trade for. Picture how when we were using FaceOff we didn't actually know what caused a guy to get a rating other than eye-test. That's where we are back to even though Steve is the one designing the ratings engine.
Steve has been generous enough to offer some insights into the engine, but don't expect to know more than a surface amount, just like with FaceOff. I'd say the main thing we have now is something to base the ratings on rather than guys receiving the same rating year after year. I know it may be a bit frustrating to see a guy change in rating in a year but consider why it happens:
1. The guy got injured and was used differently when they came back. 2. Someone else on the team was injured/traded so player usage was changed. 3. The team was particularly bad. 4. Change in coach 5. New players added to the team
etc.
What I'm saying is that there are a lot of things that affect a player's individual rating. Accept it and hope things change for the better in the next season.
