Let's get ready to rumble!
Game 1: Chelsea 5 @ Revelstoke 4
Chelsea's big guns came to play, firing a whopping 16 quality chances at Sorokin, who heroically withstood the barrage, but did not get enough run support from the team to 'goalie' the Daggers.
After Ehlers and Ovechkin opened the scoring in a frenzy of high quality chances (8 on 12 shots in the first period by Chelsea), Kucherov scores to cut the lead in half. While the shots were tied, the Daggers managed to quadruple the scoring chances.
The second period features Kucherov's natural hat trick, where he takes 30 seconds to score two more. Unfortunately for the Mammoths, the Gaudreau-Evans-Atkinson line decided that they'd get scored on at every opportunity, allowing Crosby to tie the game and let every forward on that line score. Pavelski notched a powerplay marker just past the halfway point of the game, but Cam Atkinson answered back with one of his own barely two minutes later. While the Mammoths finally did start getting pucks to the net, they were still outshot handily by the Daggers, both in quality and quantity.
The third period featured no good chances whatsoever by the Mammoths, and 4 more by the Daggers, which meant that Logan Couture scored the winner a little past halfway.
Both Atkinson and Lucas Raymond were also injured in the first period, with Raymond missing nearly 15 minutes of the first, while Atkinson was just seen limping off the ice all game long. The Daggers' defense also played a part in the game, blocking two quality chances by the Mammoths.
Total shots: Revelstoke 6 hard shots on 31, Chelsea 16 hard shots on 48
Game 2: Chelsea 2 @ Revelstoke 5
It appeared that either having secured home ice advantage, or from the volume of shots taken by Chelsea took a toll on them, where they stopped hitting the net with such accuracy.
Gaudreau opened the scoring after Michael Kempny took an untimely penalty 7 minutes into the game. The shots still favoured the Daggers 11-8, but the high danger chances were 2-1 for the Mammoths. Otherwise, it was a surprisingly quiet period for both teams.
The second period saw Ovechkin tie the game up on one of many errant passes by Seguin. Luckily for him, Kucherov once again took another 30 seconds to score two more goals (he seems to love the 7:12 mark of the second period), followed up by Gaudreau's second of the game at 14:48. This time the Mammoths out shot and out chanced Chelsea, 4 on 18 to 2 on 10.
The final frame started off poorly for the Mammoths, who took two penalties in a row, fortunately with no damage from the potent Daggers' attack. Bjorkstrand potted a goal with 8 minutes to go, but penalty trouble near the end of the game sank any chance of a comeback, when Raymond notched his first of the playoffs on the man advantage. Once again, two more quality chances were stymied by the Daggers' defence, but not enough to make a difference.
Total shots: Revelstoke 8 hard shots on 35, Chelsea 5 hard shots on 37
The series now shifts to Chelsea with the series tied 1-1, date TBD.
