Which of your players surprised you this year? Positive or negative? After an excruciatingly slow start I was pleasantly surprised by Hayton’s second half and his 19 goals. My two young Flyers surprised with 27 (Tippett) and 19 (Frost) goals. And I’m surprised how fucking useless Greenway was for the entire season. The only bright spot here is that Hinostroza was worse. Zadorov finishing with 14 goals including a hat trick in the last games surprised the shit out of me and giving me a shot at a reasonable top 4, ratings permitting. Sprong getting even crazier was a shock. Tavares hitting 35 goals, Yarncrook and Eberle and Zachattack all hitting 20 was nice. Mantha and especially Mangiapane falling into a black hole absolutely sucked. I suppose I should say I’m upset at Laine missing 1/3rd of the year YET AGAIN but if I’m honest I’d have seen it coming.

Surprised by Dunn and Vilardi. They both did double what I expected. Rantanen with way more goals, but maybe that's a bit of a function of how much scoring is up this season.
Disapppointed with Barzal. Lundell as well considering how well Mercer and Cozens did, but I'm still content with the pick. He is more defensive so I should probably keep my expectations lower.

I was happy with draft picks from the last 2 years Beniers Mercer Stutzle all took steps forward. my defenseman did not seem to do well but we will see when the ratings come if anyone stands out. adding Alex Lyon to actually playing games is nice. Tomas Harley and Nicolas Miloche not playing a game seems wierd as I watche enough flames hockey to know they could have used Meloche a few times. the older guys all seem to have hit there averages except Kuznetsov but that is probably just the fact that Washington had a down year.

There are a few other guys on your team Lorne that seem to have panned out in my opinion.
Carson Soucy, Mittelstadt, Forsling, Moser all seem legit as well.

Upside surprises for me are RNH and Morrisey along with Giroux finding the fountain of youth for another year. Cozens was ahead of schedule and while Pinto got off to a hot start ended up about where I thought he would be.Good to see Georgiev and Korpisalo return to the form I expected from them.
Disappointments are Lindholm (expected a drop off but not that steep), Grubauer (better but still not where I expect him to be), and Farabee, JVR and Terravainen who I expected some scoring from if they stayed healthy (they stayed healthy but couldn't find the net consistently but Philly's lack of talent hurt - could have said the same of Strome and Silfverburg but had low expectations because I expected the Ducks to suck).

You know Kotkaniemi had 18 as well. Fischer had 13, Ritchie actually finished with 13 as well, Debrusk had 27, Sanheim had 7 and a good year on the blue line, Hronek finally showed up though he got hurt, Strome, if you hadn't traded him, would have had 65 points for you ;-).

It was pretty much Murphy's year for my guys. I had the Lawrence Curse this year. 3 of my top 4 wingers crushed by injuries. Landeskog may not play again, Nichushkin is still dealing with that ankle injury, Wilson looked good, but only played 33 games. Marchment seemed to have a hard time fitting in to Dallas' plans, Vrana only had 23 games, Eriksson-Ek has been pushed down the depth chart. Alex Formenton playing in Switzerland. The list of "ugh" is long.
Robertson was good, but faded bad in the 2nd half, same with Thompson, plus Thompson is most likely only C rated which will cause issues.... Meier was solid as usual. Scheifle was great. Crouse was really good this year. Some of my younger guys - Glass and Delandrea are starting to look productive. Burns had a good year in Car., the rest of my D was pretty average.
Gonna be a tough year next year for sure.

My curse indeed. Still ongoing, with Atkinson being hurt all year, I still don't have a full complement of wingers next year. At least Kucherov is finally healed of being hit right in the salary-cap for now, but who knows next year.
Domi surprised me, but then, with Chicago having no one to play, he got a ton of ice time and opportunity. Ditto Athanasiou.
Disappointing but understandable, is Raymond, who took a step back from last year, especially considering how the other draftees did quite a bit better. Still close to 20, so not horrid though. Other surprising notes - Olofsson with his 28 goals was a healthy scratch for 7 (or maybe more?) games, because Buffalo had so many better options. Another disappointment is Gaudreau, considering Freddie almost outscored Johnny this year. Again, expected though, with the shift to Columbus.
Ekblad and Matheson scored well when they weren't injured, but the rest of my D looks quite suspect right now.
And Sorokin is better than I expected him to be, at least, for this year. Reporter asks literally any question Sorokin: “I no think. Just stop puck. Tomorrow new day.”

None of those were surprises. 😀 Ah, my bad, I thought you had low expectations and were crossing your fingers on some of those guys. Figured they'd have been pleasant surprises to pan out. Looks like Oxford is on the rise again.

Mason Marchment was so weird I think he had 10 goals the first week then disapeared I warned him but he just won’t listen. He's got a 40 point card with 180 ish shots. I got him in teh 4th round. How many of those guys have YOU drafted in the 4th round? He'll be fine once his knee issue is healed up and he has a full year to get used to the system in Dallas. I expect him to be like a 20/30 type guy, totally fine for me.

Tkachuk had a better season than I expected. I guess he is more than just a product of a great line. McDavid was amazing of course, but exceeded even his sky high expectations.
Other than that, I had hoped for a half season from Pacioretty, instead he is out basically the whole season.
Defensively, my top 3 were solid still, Fox is getting Norris talk, though it seems unlikely anyone other than Karlsson will get that award.
Wish Thompson had played a full season, my other goalies were worse than I had hoped for.
Most of my other guys were right around where I had hoped (pro rated at least), but a number of guys missing 20 to 30 games means I will likely play more of my roster than I would like.

I'm not saying that Marchment won't improve next season, but he's 27 years old, has had 2/3 of one good year and is on a new team which is in the West, as Huberdeau found out. Lorne drafted Pageau. That's legit.

Will someone please take my garbage squad under their wing and teach me the ways of the game?
