I normally hate Whyne-shyinski, but he's correct in the thinking around a shoot out.
"the shootout itself remains an absolutely inequitable, ridiculous way to determine the winner of a regular-season game, especially one with serious playoff implications. Forget the 65 minutes of a different sport you just watched. No opposing skater on the ice to defend him, and the only pass Kuznetsov completed was to himself. A team effort boiled down to gimmickry."
Keep the ties and say "No" to free points based on a single players ability to deke a goalie. This is a team sport, ride or die with a team system.

I'm not sure where I lie on this.
1. We like to try and replicate what the NHL does. 2. Shootout is driven to provide a resolution for the NHL fans, especially those in the arenas. We don't have this issue.
It's likely there wouldn't be a shootout if point 2 didn't matter.
