Game 1 - At the Bruiserdome - VFS Starter: Ullmark, BON Starter: Francouz
Game 1 was a chippy affair that had a total of 18 penalties called (including 4 sets of coincidentals), which led to a total of 5 special teams goals being scored. Strome opened the scoring 6:00 into the first on a sweet feed from Keller, who then made another great dish to Johansen, who potted a powerplay marker to make it 2-0. McDonaugh scored on the powerplay a few minutes later, followed by Cirelli scoring on a delayed penalty while shorthanded to make it 4-0 Bruisers at the intermission. The second starts right were we left off with a parade of penalties (after Theodore gets absolutely wrecked from a big hit and has to leave the ice for the period) and a Bonavista powerplay goal from O'Reilly. Viking does spoil the shut out bid at 19:59 of the second on a goal from Huberdeau, which would end up being the lone goal for the visitors. Johansen scores again in the third and starts to chirp Ullmark, who takes his frustration out on the Bruiser in front of him with a vicious chop to the knees. Johansen has the last laugh as he scores on the ensuing powerplay to complete the hat trick.
Final - Bonavista 7, Viking 1
Bonavista - 41 Shots (14 hard)
Viking - 21 Shots (5 hard)
3 Stars
1. Johansen - 3G, 1A
2. McDonaugh - 1G, 2A
3. Francouz - Stopped 4 of 5 high danger chances
Game 2 - At the Sutterdome - BON Starter: Francouz, VFS Starter: Forsberg
The teams head back to Viking with the Flying Sutters looking for revenge for being blown out last game. And then proceed to let Strome score 8:00 into the first. Strome got a little too cocky and ended up getting the league's first ever penalty for having an annoying voice, and Huberdeau netted the equalizer on the man advantage. Near the end of the first, Theodore made an amazing stretch pass to spring O'Reilly who roofed it past Forsberg for the go ahead goal. Celebrating the goal was not enough for Theodore and he began taunting the Viking bench. Big mistake. On his next shift, Theodore was run over by the semi known as Jeannot, and left the ice in some discomfort.
This seemed to shoot some adrenaline into the Flying Sutters during intermission as they came out swinging in the second, with Norris tying the game early on. The Bruisers attempted to rally, only to have Lindgren absolutely flattened into the boards causing the glass to shatter. Lindgren would leave the game on a stretcher, leaving the Bruisers with only 5 D for the remainder of the game. Seeing Lindgren's weak thumbs up as he was carted off the ice spurred the Bruisers into action with Theodore again making an amazing stretch pass to O'Reilly who netted his second of the game. But again, Theodore couldn't keep his mouth shut and started jawing at the Viking bench, and even a few fans, again. A few minutes later some hockey was played, and Tolvanen slipped one past Francouz to tie the game. Things appeared to calm down after that, only to heat up again as the 8:15 Jeannot Express caught, you guessed it, Theodore with his head down and utterly demolished him. Theodore would limp back to the bench in obvious pain, but would remain in the game as Bonavista was already down 1 D.
Before the start of the third, the refs issued a warning to both benches to cool it. Message not received as Foligno and Namestnikov squared up for a tilt near the start of the period. Things eventually cooled down after Hamilton and Zaitsev were given coincidentals for looking at each other funny. The rest of the period was back and forth, but resolved nothing with almost everybody being absolutely gassed, except for Viking's fourth line whom the coach seemed to forget about. Viking came out flying for the OT frame and out-shoot the Bruisers 4 to 1, only to fall short and the game ends in Viking's first draw.
Final - Bonavista 3, Viking 3
Bonavista - 34 Shots (5 hard)
Viking - 34 Shots (8 hard)
3 Stars
1. O'Reilly - 2G, 1A
2. Huberdeau - 1G, 1A
3. Theodore - 2A, and a thorough gooning
