Regulation win: 3 points Overtime or shootout win: 2 points OT or SO loss: 1 point Regulation loss: 0 points. As it stands right now, each NHL game is worth an average of 2.23 standings points (EDIT: original 2.3), as each loss is worth about 0.12 points against. Or as we say, ".560 is the new .500". There is no reason to have a variable sum of standings points available in each game. Furthermore, the original reason for giving the 'free point' for an OT game -- it'll stop teams from being paranoid in OT -- has been completely refuted. All it's done is make teams be just-that-paranoid in minutes 55-60 of a tie game, instead of minutes 60-65 of a time game. This proposal will come along with my proposal to emulate NHL regular season shootout rules, which means that my proposed SO ranges for forwards and goalies are forthcoming. They will be good ranges. I can guarantee one simple principle -- the better your player was in a shootout, the better your player will be in our shootouts ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) But yeah, this 2-0 / 2-1 stuff needs to stop. We have no TV sponsors we need to attract with the pallid horseshit of faux parity ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

3 point games are for soccer and women's leagues. Which are we 8). Most of the time in our league the last 5 minutes have less scoring chances because teams are low on Shifts. Adding shifts to ot would give people a better chance to score adding a shoot out sounds fun. But hockey only has 2 points for a win. I would love to see a mock standings with 3 point rule.

I'm a big soccer fan and at least they say "if you can't decide a winner in regulation we're going to give each of you a point and flush the third point so that you both fall further off the pace."
There's a second "Standings" thread immediately under this season but before you go into the results that has the two formats back to back for easier comparison

I'm not a fan of the 3 point for win rule. The NHL doesn't do this. We are trying to represent how an NHL season goes.

We could be like rugby and add an extra point if we score 4 or more goals(trys)

We could be like rugby and add an extra point if we score 4 or more goals(trys) Ooohh! If we're going with odd sports for ideas I want to propose playoffs similar to the IPL (cricket). 1v2 winner to finals. Loser plays winner of 3v4. Winner of that series plays in finals for cup. NHL - SCHMenHL.
