Sundays games featured a home and home between Belfast and Cremona
Game 1 -
Tee Patriot fly into a chilly and snowy Cremona to start the series off. They waste little time in shelling Cremonas netminder Demko. Timo Meier capitalizes on a weak Severson pass, to put the Patriots up by one at the 2:00 mark. Mikkola and Lundell get acquainted with the seat warmers in the penalty boxes at 4:24 to send the teams to some 4v4 action. After a quick breather on the bench, Timo Meier skates out and rifles a shot past Demko at 5:36 to extend the lead to 2-0. Jason Robertson extends the route to 3-0 at 8:00, before Nichushkin one times a pass from Bergeron at 14:48 to push the lead to 4-0. Jack Eichel and Landeskog do some pushing and shoving after the whistle at 19:12 and get sent off for 2 minutes each.
The second period doesn't go much better for the Titans as Landeskog puts the Patriots up 5-0 at 4:48 of the period. Erikkson-Ek capitalizes on a miscue by Laffrenier and pots his own FC goal at 15:36 and the Patriots are up 6-0. Mason Marchment takes a cross crease pass from Bergeron to make it a converted touchdown for the Patriots at 17:12. The ugliness really kicks off with an enraged Lesser Tkachuck jumps on a spectating Tage Thompson, who reluctantly sheds the gloves to teach the little pest a lesson in humility at 20:00.
Sergachev goads Erikkson-Ek into some fisticuffs at :24 of the third period, before Bergeron is sent of for his own safety at 8:48 fo r2 minutes. The Titans can't get anything going on that PP, but just as Bergeron is coming back on the ice, Matthews is given a penalty shot, that he immediately whiffs on. Matthews finally breaks the shutout at 15:36 before Svechnikov takes two minutes at 16:48 to round out the score sheet.
Patriots were 55 shots - 12 HS including 2 FC hard shots, 7 FC regular shots and 7 goals.
Titans were 33 shots - 8 HS with 9 FC regular shots and 1 goal.
18 FC shots in this game.....
Game 2:
The return affair in Belfast was an ugly affair all around.
Bowen Byram is run into the boards by Hakkanpaa at 4:24 and is slow to get up, but would stay in the game at a -3. Nichushkin opens the scoring at 7:36 to stake the Patriots to a 1-0 lead. Oleksiak lines up Severson at 8:24 and sends him to the local hospital for the remainder of the Titans visit, leaving them down one defender early. Hakkanpaa then blocks a Matthews HS to preserve the lead. Carlo then tunes up Titans yappy pest Tkachuk again at 13:36, both players being sent off for 5. Matthews bulls his way in front of Kuemper and finally gets the Titans on the scoreboard at 16:00 to tie the game at 1-1. Pesce and Mikkola sit for 2 each at 19:12. Demko somehow magically keeps his team in this game, unlike the previous contest only allowing the one goal on 4 quality chances.
The second period starts with Tkachuk STILL yapping before Landeskog finally drops the gloves to attempt to teach the hooligan some manners at 4:00. At 8:00 Hakkanpaa again slides across to block a shot from Taylor Hall, preserving the tie while the Patriots swarm Demko but are unable to solve him. Slightly above avg goalie suddenly becomes unbeatable? Most likely some more illegal Rask gear being used. Bergeron finally, somehow sneaks one across the goal line at 10:00 to extend the lead to 2-1. Taking objection to the obvious cheating on the part of the Titans goalie, Oleksiak runs Eichel into the stands and sends him to check on Severson at the local emergency ward at 12:48. Hakkanpaa blocks another shot at 15:36 before Mikkola crushes Demko outside his crease and sends him to triage as well. Enter Knight for the Patriots to pick on you say? Nah, he uses the same cheat mode gear and suddenly becomes a 200 goalie.
At :48 of the third, with the ref's ignoring the blatant cheating going on by the Titans, the Patriots attempt to take matters into their own hands again with Oleksiak catching Hughes with his head down, sending him to -2 land. Unfortunately, the fix is in and the Ref's start to call a parade of penalties to try and get the Titans that tying goal. Bergeron is called for high sticking at 5:36, even though video review clearly shows it was the Titan players own stick, but the Titans can't generate any quality chances this time. At 8:00 the refs call Carlo for Roughing, even though he wasn't even on the ice at the time. The Titans pull out all the stops on this one. Pulling Knight, adding Laffrenier on the point and going for broke. Somehow they don't manage a quality shot during the proceedings and at 10:24 Erikkson-EK has a chance at an empty net....which he promptly fails miserably at. Not to be deterred, the ref's call Landeskog at 10:48 for an illegal stick even though 3 measurements come up legal. Again, the Titans can only muster one quality chance that Kuemper turns aside to preserve the one goal lead. At 14:00 Hakkanpaa again blocks a Titans shot by Svechnikov and Lindell blocks on from Lundell at 14:48. The Patriots clinging to the one goal lead amidst all of this treachery. Unfortunatley, at 19:59.8 Nichushkin, trying to dump the puck out, floats a PF1 to Mikael "This isnt the real roll" Sergachev who...of course...hits his 1-9-1 range and ...of course... Kuemper lets it in to tie the game at 2-2. Absolute fucking bullshit.
Overtime solves nothing, each team getting one good chance, but the goalies keep it tied up and the Titans skate to a thoroughly undeserved 2-2 tie.
Patriots were 35 shots (0 FC) - 9 HS for 2 goals vs Demko
and 20 shots - 4 HS for 0 goals vs Knight
for 55 shots total- 13 HS and 2 goals combined.
Titans were 37 shots (5 more FC)(28 of these were auto shots from nowhere on cards) - 6 HS, 2 FC HS for 2 Goals (1 FC).
Patriots are now 15-2-1-0
