Yeah 5 forechecking shots, one hard in one game and 7 forechecking shots, 4 hard, 3 goals in the 2nd game IS bullshit.
Just when you think you've built a decent team, some random middle to bottom feeder swirls by with 9 forecheckers and just coasts to wins regardless of what your team does. I could have had 10D and 4's at forward and still not stopped more than 4 or 5 of his shots. It was all "Oh hey 2x11 ...SHOT" or forechecking shots. I think he might have had 4? Maybe 5 actual N shots?
If anyone thinks they have a chance at winning, come see me, the Great Dismantling of 2022 is going to be in full swing shortly.
Also, goalies? Utterly pointless. A 106 or a 121...zero difference in quality, NEVER pay a premium for goalies because they just don't matter. 2 goals on the 8? sure not bad eh?...another 4 on the 6? Ummm, I guess, if it gets better on the rest.... Hey how about 7 more on the 5 and 9? ffs. 3 on the 10 and 11? 50-50 not exactly what I was looking for off a 121. 5 on the 12, 2 on the 4 ...small victories I guess?, 5 on the 3's....oh but hey only 1 on the 2's! Party time. The spread on them for thousands of games may be correct but in small sample sizes you want more saves on the "betting" numbers.
This is purely sarcastic here about the goalies guys, but it does raise a bit of a point. If you have to be 120+ to even be close to 50-50 on the card (after the 7 row), then the differences in goalies isnt all that pronounced.
I'd suggest we allow for a goal, or even two on the 7's and spread some of the wealth around to the rest of the cards. Because I dont see any real difference between a 116 or a 126 outside the 7's. Too many saves are taken up on the 7 column and you'll be close enough to 50-50 on the rest of the card, that even 10-15 point spreads are negligible. But if we had some goals on the 7's it'd allow for the better goalies to shine more on the rest of the cards.
In all seriousness, yeah a couple bullshit games, my luck stunk, Steve was a bit on the positive side of luck, his goalie was quite good, mine was average at best. The game peripherals make a HUGE difference. IF you can manage 3 FC's on your lines, that's a HUGE increase in your offense and a huge decrease in the other teams possession, for a very large swing when combined.
Add in some bars, ensure you have a screener and you can have a very impactful team without paying for superstar scorers. In fact, you can shut down those guys easily because you'll generate so many turnovers, that you'll significantly cut down on their touches of the puck.
Games were fine, was nice to see Steve, I was pretty frustrated by a better team construction is all.
