See 17.6 in Rulebook to read current rules.
This vote may require a second vote if none of the options have a majority.
Option 1.
In order to address the fact that 60+ game goalies are a thing of the past I propose the following
At the start of each playoff series a coach can opt for one of the following 2 options if they apply. This choice remains in plays for the entire series, a coach can change options between series.
Option A
A coach can choose option A if all the following apply,
The team has a goalie that plays 42+ games
The team has at least 82 carded goalie games
They have not made use of the league goalie this season.
The goalie with 42+ games can play the entire 7 games
Backups- if the team has a 2nd goalie that plays at least enough games to get the games to a minimum of 82 they can backup the whole series if they wish or they can create a goalie stack for the remaining needed games in 5 game increments up to the needed games and roll on that at the start of a game.
Option B
Create a stack of 8 like we currently do.
Playoffs - 7 game series
Goalies
10-20 =1
21-30 =3
31-36 =4
37-42 =5
43+ =7
This biases towards goalies that play more games and marginalizes the 10-20 game guys
Option 2.
My rule proposal is to remove the playoff appearance Stack for goalies and replace it with a simple number of starts formula and table so that GMs can pick the goalie they want to start and when.
The formula: =ROUNDUP(GS/10,0)+1
The Table
1-10 GS = 2 Playoff Starts
11-20 GS = 3
21-30 GS = 4
31-40 GS = 5
41-50 GS = 6
51+ GS = 7
And so it’s clear, GS = Game Starts = Roundup(Minutes Played/60,0)
