The last speed bump in the Patriots season were tangled with on Saturday.
Game 1 in Bonavista saw the puck drop...and Shea Theodore immediately go to the box for 2 minutes. Apparently the kid in the first row he made fun of was teh Ref's nephew, whoops.
Casey Desmith was the only thing holding this back from being a messy affair in the first, stopping 3 of 4 quality chances among 15 shots directed at him. Joel Eriksson-Ek being the only one to solve him on a bad giveaway at a line change by the Bruisers. The Bruisers only manage one chance that Goalie Ned easily turns aside. 1-0 after 1.
2nd period see's Nikko Mikkola intercept a pass up the middle and pocket a nifty deke past Desmith on another forechecking goal for the Patriots. This seemed to deflate the Bruisers as they only manage 7 shots on Goalie Ned who turns aside both quality chances. At the other end, Desmith is bombarded with another 14 shots, 6 quality and he let's in 4 as he's left hung out to dry. Asplund, Eriksson-Ek and Wilson at the horn round off a 4 goal outburst by the Patriots who go into teh 3rd period up 5-0
The 3rd period starts with McDonagh off at :24, sending the Patriot on the PP again, where Jakub Vrana intercepts an errant pass and slams home a FC/PP goal past Desmith to make it 6-0. A bad bounce off the boards sends Bergeron in SH on Goalie Ned and the veteran makes no mistake to finally put the Bruisers on the board.
Unfortunately the Bruisers couldnt sustain that pressure and Ristolainen and Vrana both score before Oskar Lindblom puts in a late one to round out teh scoring.
Shamrockville claim an 8-2 victory on 13 Hardshots on 41 total while Bonavista answers with 2 goals on 2 of 9, 28 total shots.
The return affair in Shamrockville wouldnt go much better for the road weary Bruisers. The Patriots set up shop between the circles and pepper Desmith with 4 quality chances in the opening frame while the Bruisers only manage 8 shots with 2 quality chances.
Belfasts Jason Robertson opens the scoring on a nifty pass from Rasmus Ristolainen, and Desmith does what he can by shutting the door on 2 more PP's in the frame, keeping it a one goal game.
The 2nd period sees Shamrockville push forward with a whopping 7 hard shots in the period Desmith stopping 4 and heard asking if ANYONE was playing defense for the Bruisers on this night. Shea Theodroe pulls one back for the visitors, but the Bruisers still trail 4-1 after 2. Hellebuyck stops two other quality chances by the Bruisers to preserve the lead.
The 3rd period is chippy with Oleksiak getting tangled up with McDonagh, then taking 2 alone, only to have Cam Fowler follow seconds later for his own infraction. Jakub Vrana restores the 4 goal lead on a break out pass from Dylan Coghlan, while Clayton Keller replies with one for Bonavista at 18:48.
Both goalies were sharp in the 3rd only allowing the 1 goal each on 3 hard shots each.
Shamrockville skates away with a 5-2 win on 5 of 14 and 42 total shots, while Bonavista was 2 on 7 with 24 total.
Shamrockville finishes the season at 16-2 and wait to see if Cole Harbor can unseat them for 1st place.
