This looks like a clear win for Moose Jaw. Maybe I'm not seeing what the GMs see. Aside from an even swap of 1sts, we have:
2C Eriksson Ek (30 Goals, 4 Defense), Elite 2-way forward 3LW Saad (25 Goals), and good for 20 more next year 2RD Zub (5/5!) AND 2 x 3rds AND 2 x 4ths
For
2C Norris, who has had 3 surgeries on his shoulder and is one body check away from LTIR 3RW Evangelista. Good player, but no young forward was more adversely impacted by the offseason; forced out of the top 6 by Stamkos/Marchessault 4LW Cotter who has a bar, I guess.
What am I not seeing? And I ask with respect; I'm not asking for any sort of action.

Steve and I have very different ways of evaluating players. Neither is wrong, often just a reflection of where our teams are at. That's how trades get done.
I see this evaluation from Steve as very point in time while I see a number of younger players being moved for older players. I value youth more than most people in our league, though that is changing as my team has gotten better. I think Arron may have been able to get "more" for his players but not necessarily the players in the age range that he's looking for.
Also, to me the swap of firsts is not even at all. The 2025 pick based on this trade is likely much later in the round than the 2024 pick given the current improvement after the move to Moose Jaw and pending additional moves going into this season. I think picks 2 through 5 this year will yield a player equally good so I'd want another first rounder on top of the 2025 pick to make that sort of move. I covet early picks in the upcoming draft.
We all have different ways to evaluate players and trades. That's why when I look at a trade when it is submitted, I don't calculate out who I think is the winner, but rather just want to see some "value" on both sides of the deal. None of us can look into the future and decide how things will go. Except Lawrence, so don't trade with him.

Hey Steve, I see where you are coming from here, but the value that I see coming back to me is the youth as well as the 5th overall pick this year. I think that pick is the highest value piece in this deal, many of the pieces coming from my side have lower value (other than Ek, who is the best player in this deal). Defensive defencemen have limited value in our league, they are useful for sure, but are not generally considered to be high value in trades. Saad is older and I have been looking to move him for a few seasons now with no real interest. I also place little value on 3rd and 4th round picks, though YMMV, I never do well with those picks as I do not tend to scout that deeply into the draft pools. I can understand that from your perspective Moose Jaw won this deal, but I think it is pretty close to even in my estimation, I am looking two to three seasons down the road for when I will likely get back into playoff competition, so I have time for the pieces coming to me to develop, I hope that at that time this deal will look better than it might to you now.
