Revelstoke 2 @ Viking 7
While the Mammoths stormed out of the gate, taking a bunch of shots early on Vejmelka, and scoring the first goal, it was all downhill from there. An errant shot hit Vejmelka in the neck, allowing Ullmark to take over, not that it would matter. The Flying Sheep-Sutters scored the next 5, before a broken stick allowed Brandon Tanev his second goal of the game, shorthanded at that. Viking scored two more, because Murray is special.
Shots on goal:
Viking: 36 (11 high danger)
Revelstoke: 34 (5 high danger, 0 in the 3rd period)
Viking 8 @ Revelstoke 6
This game had one of the most eventful first periods, with the Mammoths' Matheson taking a penalty off the faceoff for being ugly, Rodriguez scoring right off the faceoff, and as Matheson skates back on the ice for the next faceoff, gets promptly beaten by a speedy Alex Tuch. Embarrased, Matheson picks up the next puck off the faceoff, storms into the Viking zone and wires one past Vejmelka to halve the Viking lead. Things settled down after that, though the teams swapped goals before the end of the period. That and Ekman-Larson tripped on his skate laces and injured himself for the period. It had nothing to do with the 3 goons he was also skating against, swore coach Adam.
Victor Olofsson, before turning into a pumpkin next year, tied the game in the second, and once again the teams traded goals before Viking took over once more, with 2 more goals to close out the period, up 7-4. This period featured the Flying Sheep's dmen blocking twice as many high danger shots on net as Vejmelka (2 to 1), and the equipment manager being fired once again due to yet another broken stick from a Mammoths' player.
Brendan Gallagher scored the first goal of the final stanza, before this time a broken stick favoured Revelstoke, with Lehkonen skating in and beating Vejmelka short side. Luostarinen made things interesting, with 3 minutes to go, cutting the lead down to one, but empty net shenanigans only led to Scott Laughton ensuring the victory for Viking.
Matt Murray stars for Viking, letting in all but 2 quality chances. Other odd happenings - this game featured at least 5 1-2 rolls that I can remember, none of them being a roll for range. (those would have been much funnier as range vs Belfast)
Shots on net:
Viking: 40 (9 high danger + 1 empty net)
Revelstoke: 34 (10 high danger)
Revelstoke finishes the season on a 4 game losing streak, 7-10-2-3 for 19 undeserved points
