Just a quick recap of the games.
Game 1 - Viking @ Houston (Watson's big day)
The game started with a bang thanks to goals from Pettersson and Fischer, to make it 1-1 under three minutes in. Dickinson scores late in the first to put Viking up by one at period's end. The second was a snooze fest, and not worthy on note. Jarnkrok ties it up mid-way through the third, only for Tuch to put the visitors ahead again. Then suddenly, shenanigans. Houston pulls the goalie with just under 5 minutes left and presses the attack. A rather aggressive poke check by Ullmark splatters Mantha on the ice which the refs deem worthy of a penalty shot, which Mantha scores on to tie the game in dramatic fashion. Less than 2 minutes later, Austin Watson plays hero putting the home side up for the first time in the game and secures the win for the Sundogs.
Houston 4 - Viking 3
Schmid - 40 shots (8 hard)
Ullmark - 34 shots (7 hard)
Game 2 - Houston @ Viking (I swear, this has never happened to me before)
After the thrilling comeback, Houston came out charging to get the series sweep in game two. Chances were traded until Jason Dickinson pots one just after the halfway mark of the first, and then promptly takes a penalty on the next tick to give the visitors a chance to tie it. Viking is able to kill off the penalty after a couple of great saves from Ullmark. Nurse and MacEwen square up for a tilt, but the refs step in a little too quickly for the combatants liking. Tuch pots two goals in the second to give Viking a 3-0 lead late in the first. Nurse and MacEwen square off again, this time telling the refs to back off while they duke it out. The third period showcases some more scintillating saves from Ullmark, while chants of "Round 3, FIGHT" were heard in the stands every time Nurse and MacEwen were on the ice. A late push from Houston was not enough as Viking secures their franchise first shut out win.
Viking 3 - Houston 0
Ullmark - 44 shots (10 hard)
Schmid - 36 shots (5 hard)
Ullmark definitely stood on his head and stole the victory in this one.
