9--Cole Harbour and Houston met up to close out the Butcher's season... a season that will probably go down as one of the worst in league history, at least from a goaltending perspective.
Game 1 Cole Harbour @ Houston:
The visitors got off to a strong start converting twice on the powerplay as Jayden Schwartz and Tage Thompson both scored in the opening half of the first period. Things were looking good for the Butchers... and then, in a move that was thoroughly predictable to any who have paid attention to this season, the wheels fell completely off. The Sun Dogs got goals from Jordan Eberle (on the powerplay) and Calle Jarnkrok to tie the game up in the final two minutes of the period, Elias Pettersson's first of the game (foreshadowing!) came on the first tick of the second period and the home side never looked back. Colton Sissons extended the lead to 2 a few moments later. Ryan Donato potted one to pull the Butchers to within one. Pettersson pushed the lead back to two, Rasmus Andersson scored to send the teams to the intermission with the score 6-3. Brandon Saad scored the Butcher's final goal of the game, while the home side got three more goals from Timo Meier, Pettersson (hat trick!) and Anthony Mantha for a final score of 9-4. sigh...
Final tally : Cole Harbour 4 (37 shots, 7 IR) @ Houston 9 (46 shots, 13 IR)
Game 2 Houston @ Cole Harbour
Timo Meier scored on the first shot of the game. sigh... The teams traded goals over the remainder of the period, Bowen Byram and Sam Bennett scored for the Butchers while Andersson and Kevin Labanc scored to send the teams into the first break at 3-2. Pettersson scored, again, with Bennett in the box to give the Dogs of Houston a two goal lead. TJ Oshie replied to briefly pull the home side within one before Pettersson scored his fifth goal of the set and sent the teams to the locker room with a score at 5-3. Schwartz scored early in the third to make it a little interesting. The score stayed at 5-4 until Morgan Geekie scored the first empty netter of the year against the Butchers to close out the season. Of note, Logan Thompson was injured on a Calle Jarnkrok hard shot 4:24 into the first period, giving Reimer a chance to complete his bad goalie bingo... he did fall just short, but at least it was something to play for!
Final tally: Houston 6 (43 shots, 7 IR + one EN) @ Cole Harbour 4 (44 shots, 10 IR)
Cole Harbour closes out the season at 3-18-1 for 7 points. 80 GF, 132 GA (that has to be a record...sigh...)
