Shamrockville V Brandon
Game 1 in Shamrockville:
The Brandon Moose (Accepted brand name, rubber stamp of approval from the Name Nazis from Revelstoke), were in town for the first game of a home and home series on Wednesday night.
Unfortunately the visiting moose were 30 seconds late to the puck drop and Brent Burns get’s credit for an early (12 seconds in) goal while Carter Hart is still lacing up his skates. McDavid and Palmieri drawing assists for the home team.
At 2:48, Jason Robertson takes a feed from Bergeron and Oleksiak to make it 2-0 before most fans had finished their first Guinness of the evening.
Tanner Pearson, noted pugilist, takes exception and home captain Patrice Bergeron has to put him in his place, both men off for 2:00 for roughing at 3:36.
Sidney Crosby works the give and go with Tkachuk, from Carlos break out pass, perfectly and the Patriots are up 3-0 at 6:48 in the first period.
Looking to even things up, the refs call Garnet Hathaway for 2:00 while eating a hot dog on the bench at 7:12, but the ensuing PP is colder than Shesterkins glove hand and the score remains 3-0.
At 10:12,Tanner “The Goon” Pearson is looking to stir things up, but he’s on the wrong rink, looking to square off with one of the Womens National squad, so he sits for 2:00 by himself instead.
Thankfully the Moose manage to escape the period with no further damage.
The 2nd period sees Robbi Fabri take 2:00 for tripping at 1:36, but the Brandon PK manages to hold off the Patriots attack, with a late McDavid shot labeled for the far corner somehow blocked by Fabbro to keep the Moose in it.
The Moose continue the undisciplined play with Cole Smith going off at 3:12, followed by Stamkos at 8:48 and then Lemieux at 13:36. That last penalty is the dagger, as Tavares puts home a PP marker at 14:48 from Carlo and McDavid,to push the lead to 4-0.
Young Moose player Slafkovsky get`s into it with Val Nichushkin at 16:24, both players getting 2:00, and on the 4-4 play at 17:36, Robertson has a massive opportunity but Jared Spurgeon gets in the path of the hard shot to keep it at 4-0. That ends the second period.
The third period is fairly slow until 11:12 when Cole Smith and Patrice Bergeron are both given 2:00 in the box. Just as the 4-4 ends, Nichushkin has a great chance at 13:12, but again Spurgeon blocks another hard shot.
At 14:24 a rapid fire succession of 3 hard shots from Crouse are all turned aside by Carter Hart rolling 2-6 save to the rw, 2-6 save to the rw and 2-6 save to the rw. As he heads back to the bench where the rest of the Patriots are roaring with laughter, he tells coach O’Sheigh that he’s played his last season in Shamrockville and that if he isn’t traded this off season he’ll retire.
Thankfully the game ends for the Moose, a 4-0 loss to the home team Patriots. (Fuck parrots, Pangolins or Peccaries only).
Shamrockville was: 46 shots, 19 quality for 3 ES Goals and 1 PP Goal. 6 of those HS were PP opportunities with 4-4+ ranges.
Brandon was 22 shots, 6 quality for 0 goals.
Game 2 in Brandon
Um, Déjà vu anyone? 12 seconds in, Mattias Ekholm takes a feed from Crosby and rifles a shot past an unready Hart to make it 1-0. Another Patriots D-man scoring at 12 seconds in? Queue the X-Files music.
Hart settles in after this though and stops all 3 other quality chances thrown at him in the first.
Cole Smith goes for 2:00 at 5:12, no damage on the ensuing PP.
Pearson “The Pugilist” goes again at 14:24, no damage on this PP either, Hart is in the zone.
Tavares goes for 2:00 at 16:48, but Hellebuyck is up to the task on this PK.
And Nichushkin and Stutzle each take 2:00 for roughing at 19:12 to round out a very quiet 1st period.
The second period starts off with the Patriots gifted not 1, not 2 but 3! Consecutive R shots that are not cleared from 2:48-3:36…..and they can’t beat Hart.
Play is scrambly, back and forth until 11:36 when Captain Bergeron takes matters into his own hands and goes coast to coast to slot one past Hart finally, to make it 2-0 for the Patriots.
That’s it for the 2nd period, as both teams see their dice dry up drier than a camel fart in the Sahara.
The third period is much the same, reasonable number of shots, but diddly squat for any quality shots until Tavares rips one at Hart at 6:00, but again “Sprawlin’ Spurgeon the blocking surgeon” denies access to Harts 5 hole.
At 7:12 Brandon Carlo absolutely levels J-G Pageau who doesn’t return. That seems to deflate the Brandon bench and just 2 minutes later at 9:12, Tavares spots McDavid on the fly and he finally solves Hart again to make it 3-0.
A late tally, 18:36, by Brent Burns from McDavid and Lindell finalize the score at 4-0 for the Patriots.
Shamrockville was: 50 shots, 8 quality for 4 ES Goals
Brandon was 26 shots, 4 quality for 0 goals.
Shamrockville is 17-2-1 with Houston on the docket on Tuesday to finish the season.
Odd notes: Brandons Coach Harkness was “pipped” 5 times in this series, while Shamrockville was “pipped” 3 times. Only 1 Broken stick in the series as well.
Once again, opposing goalies are outstanding against the Patriots, but they manage to win by sheer volume of shots. Woe be unto the Patriots when they face good defense in the playoffs.
