I suppose I can let you all see how badly I dominated you wannabe GM's. Several outlandish performances by sub standard goalies kept it this close, it could have been worse. Didn't look too much. Did notice your goalies saved 70% of the hard shots they faced. Do you think that is expected?

Didn't look too much. Did notice your goalies saved 70% of the hard shots they faced. Do you think that is expected? No, I figured maybe 55-58%. I don't think it would have mattered too much though. Maybe would have been good for a couple more losses and a few OT games, but quite a few of my games I could have given up another 2-3 goals and still won. I think that by keeping the shots against so low, it helped in the smaller sample size of hard shots to make those saves. I averaged 49.5 shots for and only 24.2 against with 5 HS against average. That means they saved ~3 - 3.5 out of 5 to get to 60-70%. I had a couple lucky games where Kuemper went like 2 goals on 14 HS to inflate that. When there's that few HS, a difference of 1 save either way makes a big difference. They were above average yeah, but I dont think it was by as much as it seems. The percentage is skewed vs the actual numbers. |

Astonishing luck. Should give whomever you play in the first round hope. Hellebuyck overperformed by 21%. Kuemper overperformed by 23%. Even if they'd played average your GAA would be 2.18 and you'd still have a goal differential of +3.45/Game. Did someone mention Juggernaut? I dont know about "astonishing"....like I said before, when Im only facing 6 or fewer HS per game in 16 of my 22 games, one single roll on either side of average can skew those numbers dramatically. My goalies went: 3 saves on 6 HS = 6 saves on 11 HS = 3 saves on 4 HS + 2 saves on 4 HS = 2 saves on 4 HS = 4 saves on 4 HS + 5 saves on 6 HS + 4 saves on 6 HS += 2 saves on 7 HS - 4 saves on 5 HS + 3 saves on 3 HS + 9 saves on 13 HS ++ To be fair here Gorgieve also made 8 saves on 13 in this one, and he's certainly not a 121 save goalie. 2 saves on 3 HS += 4 saves on 5 HS + 1 save on 2 HS = 4 saves on 6 HS += 7 saves on 8 HS ++ 1 save on 2 HS = 2 saves on 2 HS += 3 saves on 3 HS + Yeah I had some good games, but when Im only having to roll 2-3 times in 6 games, 4-6 times in 10 others, like I said...one roll on either side of 50-50 makes a big impact to the percentage. Add in those 2 big games I had and it looks worse than it really is. Saving 3 of 4, or 4 of 6 for a 121 goalie isn't too far fetched IMO. I was lucky, no denying that, but let's be sensible here, the shot suppression form my team defense was far more powerful than the goaltending. That was just the extra sprinkle of "Fuck yeah" to my dominance. Whoever I play in the first round should be just as depressed and fearful as they were in the regular season. |

Since I can see there is some controversy about this I'm going to institute a temporary adjustment to the playoffs. This will be a test to see if we want to institute this going forward:
1. Each player will print off the goalie cards of their opponent in the round.
2. When a hard shot is rolled, each player will view the goalie save roll and confirm on their copy of the goalie.
3. If a player collects the dice on a hard shot save before both managers verbally confirm the matching result, the assumption will be that the save was not successful, so a goal has been scored.
So wait to collect your save dice on a hard shot and confirm both managers agree on the result.
This should not add much time to a game since there are only about 20 hard shots in a game.

Why dont we just turn over our teams to our opponents and then let them read the cards? I'm not printing off anyone's goalie card and micromanaging their dice rolls. That's just tantamount to saying that we think people cheat. And I personally, dont think that any of us would stoop to such theatrics since most of us have been playing for decades now.
The conversation was more about how a goalie card produces saves on a small sample size of rolls and that using percentages can be misleading.
If folks think Im cheating, then by all means, I have no qualms about sitting for 5 minutes while someone scans the cards and checks the dice 5 times, but Im not subjugating anyone to that nonsense. It's a game, I doubt anyone is losing sleep over a win or a loss here.

That's your choice Daniel. If I make the playoffs I will be validating the hard shot saves and I welcome anyone to use it on me so no errors are made.

I just don't like the inference that there is cheating going on by our league members or that they are so addle brained that they can't read their cards correctly.
We've never, in the 20+ years that we've been playing, resorted to policing other peoples rolls or card reading. It's distasteful.
